7 Quick and Easy Guitar Tuning Tips

For many new players the most frustrating thing about playing the guitar can be tuning it. Tuning your guitar is important because there is no way that a guitar will sound good if it's not in tune.

When you're first learning to play and you haven't yet industrialized an ear for music, you won't know if your guitar is in tune or not just by listening to each note. For this surmise we propose that you use an electronic tuner...good brands of electronic tuners include Korg and Planet Waves, they sell for around .

Tuner Guitar

With an electronic tuner you certainly tune your guitar by sight. As you tune a note you will watch a small meter or screen on the tuner that tells you visually when the string is in tune, it's easy and accurate. The quicker you learn to tune your guitar, the sooner you will enjoy playing. Keep these easy tips in mind when master tuning your guitar...

Use an electronic tuner if possible to tune your guitar to accepted pitch, this is much easier than using a "pitch pipe" or "Tuning fork" or relying only on your ear. Most of the guitarists that you hear on recordings are tuned to what is referred to as accepted Pitch Stretch the strings if they are new since the new metal of the string will turn until the string stabilizes and is stretched out ...tune...stretch...retune Tune up to the pitch, not down to the pitch Tune slowly If you feel you have gone too far past the pitch, loosen the string and take it back up to pitch moderately rather than risking going too high and breaking a string Learn the names/notes for each string (see the diagram below)* Tune all 6 strings, then go back and tune all 6 again, then go back a third time and tune all of the strings. The surmise for doing this is as you tune each string to pitch it puts additional pressure on the neck which can turn the tuning of the string you just completed

*The 6th string is the biggest string. The musical note name for the string is under the string number.
